Channel Island Harbor, CA – The Ashkin Group will recognize five outstanding individuals as Green Cleaning Champions Awards Program at the ISSA Tradeshow, November 18 to 21, 2019, in Las Vegas.
“These are individuals have proven their commitment to protecting the health of our building occupants and cleaning personnel, as well as the environment while exhibiting true leadership and innovation in the industry” says Stephen Ashkin, President of The Ashkin Group. “Plus they are outstanding individuals who have never stopped believing they could make our world a better, healthier and safer place; today and for future generations.”
This year’s Green Cleaning Champions Awards Winners are the following:
William “Bill” Balek. Now the General Counsel for ISSA, Bill also served as ISSA’s Director of Environmental Services for many years and has worked on the issue of Green Cleaning since the early 1990’s, long before it became mainstream. In fact, Bill helped guide its development. “Bill has shown true leadership. His commitment and service to the cleaning industry and the Green Cleaning Movement is greatly appreciated. This award is in recognition for everything he has done.”
That said, Ashkin announces this year’s Green Champions Awards Winners are the following:
Gene Woodard. Director of Building Services at the University of Washington, “Gene is being honored because of his focus on ergonomics. He [is] always looking for the safest, most ergonomic way to perform cleaning tasks and protect the health of cleaning workers.”
Kelly Martin. Kelly is the Director of Operations at the Green Sports Alliance. She has been instrumental in developing the Alliance’s Playbook on Greener Cleaning in Sport Facilities and the associated workshops, panel discussions with former pro athletes, and tours of professional sport facilities in conjunction with the ISSA Convention and others. “She has done an outstanding job promoting Green Cleaning by working with teams and pro athletes to bring the lessons-learned to all places where people play.”
Katy Severinsen. A 21-year veteran of Aramark and longtime proponent of Green Cleaning in schools, universities, sport and others facilities. “We are honoring Katy for her many years promoting Green Cleaning with special recognition for her ongoing support of the Green Sports Alliance. What’s also special about Katy is her efforts to take the Alliance’s training materials and serve as an ‘ambassador’ to present the materials and train others to “clean like the pros!”.
Tracey Washington Enger. Tracey is with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Indoor Environment Division. “For more than 20 years, she has worked tirelessly with schools, communities, scientists, policy-makers and others to create healthier indoor facilities, which included Green Cleaning. Tracy is an exemplary public servant whose dedication to helping kids, schools and others is truly worthy of recognition and praise.”
Gene Woodward. Director of Building Services at the University of Washington, “Gene is being honored because of his leadership bringing ergonomics to the forefront of the Green Cleaning Movement. He [is] always looking for the most effective, safest and most ergonomic way to perform cleaning tasks while protecting the health of cleaning workers. And I appreciate his commitment to mentoring and sharing his lessons-learned with others.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 20, at 2:30 p.m. at the ISSA Resource Center.
