“Kaivac Cooler System reduces energy costs by gently pressure washing display case”
Hamilton, OH – One of the biggest energy gulpers in grocery stores are the refrigerated display cases used to display meat, dairy, produce, and other food items. Further, as these display cases are used, the condenser coils become soiled and clogged.
This causes the units to struggle to maintain proper temperatures, driving up energy costs by as much as 35 percent. Overworked units eventually need service and repair and their lifecycles are diminished.
To address this, Kaivac, one of the professional cleaning industry’s most innovative cleaning equipment manufacturers, has just introduced the Cooler Case Cleaner.
“The system is similar to a gentle but powerful pressure washer,” says Mike Perazzo, vice president of business development for Kaivac, who works directly with grocery store and foodservice operators. Cleaning solution is applied to shelves, fans, condenser coils, and other refrigeration components. [Then the] moisture and soils are vacuumed up by the machine.”
According to Perazzo, the technology is based on the company’s No-Touch Cleaning® System developed twenty years ago. This is now considered the “gold standard” when it comes to spray-and-vac cleaning. *
“So far, some of our biggest customers have been mega-retailers such as Target and Walmart,” says Perazzo.
“These retailers are very energy- and sustainability-focused, so they are always looking for new ways to reduce [energy] consumption and energy costs.”
However, Perazzo believes the Cooler Case Cleaner will also become popular with traditional grocery stores, smaller food outlets, and convenience stores.
“There is not much training involved to use the system, and the unit itself is very compact,” he adds. “This makes it easy to store in almost any retail setting.”
The Cooler Case Cleaner is available directly from the manufacturer and will be on display at upcoming restaurant and foodservice trade shows beginning in 2020.
*Spray-and-vac cleaning, referring to no-touch cleaning, is a term coined by ISSA, the worldwide cleaning association. Cleaning solution is sprayed on to surfaces and then vacuumed up, leaving them clean and dry.
