Boston, MA – Project Green Schools has just announced that Stephen Ashkin is the newest member to join the organization’s Board of Directors.
Recognized as the “Father of Green Cleaning” and leader of the Green Cleaning Movement, Stephen is a speaker and author with 38 years of experience in the professional cleaning industry.
He is also a leading authority on helping schools, universities, sport facilities, businesses and others implement sustainability practices that improve occupant health and reduce environmental impact.

Stephen Ashkin comes to Project Green Schools with impressive energy, leadership, great ideas, and a significant history of professional commitment to environmental change, according to Stacy Goodman, Chairman of the Board at Project Green Schools.

Stephen has authored four books, including Green Cleaning for Dummies and The Business of Green Cleaning; has published or is quoted in over 1,000 newspaper and magazine articles; and has given over 300 presentations — all about Green Cleaning and sustainability.
He is the recipient of a US Presidential Award for his contribution to the development of the President’s Green Chemistry Awards Program, as well as an Excellence Award Winner from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Children’s Health for his work to protect children from environmental threats with recognition as the US EPA’s Partner of the Year for his support of the Safer Choice Program.
Among his long list of activities and accomplishments, Stephen is a founding member of the US Green Building Council, past member of their National Board of Directors and primary author of the cleaning credits in the LEED-EBOM Rating System.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Green Sports Alliance where he authored their Playbook on Greener Cleaning in Sport Facilities and was previously a member of the Healthy Schools Campaign’s Leadership Council and lead author of their Quick & Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools.
Stephen is also a member of the Sierra Club’s National Toxics Committee and one of their representatives to the BlueGreen Alliance, which is composed of the major environmental and labor unions in the US.
Project Green Schools partners with over 6,300 schools and 500,000 students from over 43 U.S. states and 45 countries to facilitate the development of student leaders who have engaged in E-STEAM learning and projects and are pursuing higher education and jobs in the green workforce.
